Tutorial 05 - Hide Stuff Tutorial

In this tutorial there are FIVE ways I will show you how to hide stuff. This is mostly just for like Terms of Usage pages or whatever you wish. Most of the examples are simply copying and pasting different bits. But this will require you to know where the HEAD, CSS, and HTML sections are. The last ways to hide stuff are really the only “advanced” part of the tutorial as they require some coding understanding. Hope it’s useful!

Note: All of the ways I show you are found on different sites aka not made by me (but I have used a couple of them) and I have just compiled them (with sources) in one place.

It’s very simple to change the default selection colour. To make this effect you only use CSS. Currently FireFox, Safari, Chrome and Opera support the effect. The browsers that don’t support it simply ignore the code.

You just need to paste this code in your CSS:

::selection {
background: #HEX selection color;
color: #HEX font color;
}

::-moz-selection {
background: #HEX selection color;
color: #HEX font color;
}

::-webkit-selection {
background: #HEX selection color;
color: #HEX font color;
}

And change the colors! The three codes are the same, just different syntax for different browsers.

A couple people had asked me for a tutorial on audio posts over the album art so here is a tutorial on that. It doesn’t include “default” album art if there is no album art and it doesn’t cover how to style audio posts over all. That would basically be like me just giving you the codes that I use on my audio posts…

However, I hope that this will help those who asked about it some help about how to go about having a styled audio post audio player. This is for POSTS not an external mp3 player. Since this is intermediate please don’t ask me “Where does it go?” because I labeled it intermediate for a reason. Again hope this helps somewhat.

hey guys :) it’s been awhile since i posted my last psd for caps, sorry. this isn’t the best psd and obvi doesn’t work on everything (it’s too colorful and bright) but since some anons requested me, i’m posting it. i used it on the cap meme. they (anons) were asking for a tutorial or something but god i suck at it soo… there’s nothing special on my picspams, i mean, the process of editing is just the same of every other person. put the coloring, adjust the colors you want, if you need more blue, put more blue or yellow etc. erase the parts you dont want with that color, add gaussian blur to reduce the noise and then sharpen it. okay… i’m talking too much. anyways, i hope it works for you guys. byeee! and happy new year!!!

Hey guys, I decided to make this small tutorial on how to use custom fonts in themes and make them compatible in all browsers after finding out yesterday that Firefox and Internet Explorer wouldn’t take my @font-face. It took me forever to figure it out, but it’s because they won’t load the font file for security reasons because it’s not hosted on the same subdomain. For example, my blog is catostrophically.tumblr.com, but my font file is located on static.tumblr.com. Here’s how you can get your font to work in all three major browsers.

You have two choices: use cufon, which is a javascript library that replaces the fonts, or use @font-face with a twist.

Option 1: cufon

1. First off, go to the cufon website.

2. Upload your font file under regular typeface and check The EULAs of these fonts allow Web Embedding (without Adobe Flash) and I acknowledge and accept these terms.

3. It will download a file named fontname.font.js. Upload this at the tumblr static file uploader.

4. Add the following code in your head tags:

<script src="FILE YOU JUST UPLOADED HERE" type="text/javascript"></script>
5. Now put the text you want to replace in a container with an id.

6. Add this code in your head tags:

7. Add this code after the end tag of your container:

8. You’re done!

Option 2: @font-face

1. Go to the fontsquirrel @font-face generator.

2. Upload your font and select Expert.

3. Keep everything at default except check Base64 Encode under CSS and Yes, the fonts I’m uploading are legally eligible for web embedding.

4. Click Download Your Kit and it will download a zip file. Open it.

5. Open up stylesheet.css in a text editor.

6. Upload fontname.eot and fontname.ttf in the static file uploader.

7. Replace the urls in the stylesheet with the tumblr uploaded ones.

8. Add the code and enjoy. For font-family, use the font-family defined in the stylesheet.

9. Optionally, if you don’t want the ugly huge code cluttering up your page source, upload the stylesheet to the static file uploader, and put this code in your css:
@import url('URL GOES HERE'); 
10. Enjoy!

I’ve tested both of these methods in Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. If you need help, don’t hesitated to send me a question!
